Defines the range a work centre, machine, or site is expected to run at for one measurement.
For example, a welding procedure's current window, a tempering temperature, a plating bath range, or the coolant concentration of a turning cell can each be registered as a Process limit. In the Excel template, process limits are registered on the Process and shop limits sheet.
Process limits are versioned: each limit applies from its from date until a newer limit for the same place and measurement replaces it.
The Process limit object
{
"where": "TURN-CELL-01",
"measure": "coolant-concentration",
"min": 6,
"target": 7,
"max": 8,
"unit": "%",
"from": "2026-09-01T00:00:00+02:00"
}
Fields
| Field | Type | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
where |
string | Business code of the work centre, machine, or site the limit applies to. | "TURN-CELL-01" |
measure |
string | Code from What you measure. | "coolant-concentration" |
min |
number or null | Lower bound. | 6 |
target |
number or null | Target value. | 7 |
max |
number or null | Upper bound. | 8 |
unit |
string | Unit of the values. It must be the unit of the measurement. | "%" |
from |
string | Date and time from which the limit applies, in ISO 8601 format. | "2026-09-01T00:00:00+02:00" |
Important
where, measure, and from together identify a Process limit.
Rules
-
wheremust be the code of an existing work centre, machine, or site. Pulse looks it up among work centres first, then machines and sites, and uses the first match. -
measuremust be a code from What you measure. -
unitis required and must match the unit of the measurement. Upper and lower case are not distinguished. - At least one of
min,target, andmaxis required. - Submitting a limit with the same
where,measure, andfromreplaces it. A limit with a laterfromadds a new version and keeps the earlier ones.
How values are read back
Pulse stores the values you send without labelling which one is the minimum, the target, or the maximum. When you read a limit back, the values are assigned by how many you sent:
| Values sent | Read back as |
|---|---|
| One | target |
| Two |
min and max
|
| Three |
min, target, and max
|
For example, a limit sent with only min and target is read back with those values as min and max. To get back exactly what you sent, send either target alone, min and max, or all three.
Process limits and other expectations
Process limits apply to where work is done. Other expectations are defined elsewhere:
- Changeover times between setup families: Setup rules.
- Tolerances of a part's features: Features.

API methods
Create a process limit
POST /manufacturing/metal-machining/v1/process-limits/insert
Creates a Process limit, or replaces the limit with the same where, measure, and from.
Request
POST /manufacturing/metal-machining/v1/process-limits/insert
Content-Type: application/json
{
"where": "TURN-CELL-01",
"measure": "coolant-concentration",
"min": 6,
"target": 7,
"max": 8,
"unit": "%",
"from": "2026-09-01T00:00:00+02:00"
}
Parameters
| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
where |
string | yes | Business code of the work centre, machine, or site. |
measure |
string | yes | Code from What you measure. |
min |
number or null | see Rules | Lower bound. |
target |
number or null | see Rules | Target value. |
max |
number or null | see Rules | Upper bound. |
unit |
string | yes | Unit of the measurement. |
from |
string | yes | Date and time from which the limit applies. |
Update a process limit
PUT /manufacturing/metal-machining/v1/process-limits/update
Replaces the values of the limit identified by where, measure, and from. If no such limit exists, it is created.
Request
PUT /manufacturing/metal-machining/v1/process-limits/update
Content-Type: application/json
{
"where": "TURN-CELL-01",
"measure": "coolant-concentration",
"min": 6.5,
"target": 7,
"max": 8,
"unit": "%",
"from": "2026-09-01T00:00:00+02:00"
}
Parameters
The parameters are the same as for creating a process limit.
Patch a process limit
PATCH /manufacturing/metal-machining/v1/process-limits/patch
Partially updates an existing Process limit.
The limit is identified by properties.where, properties.measure, and properties.from. All three are required. Fields you leave out keep their current values. min, target, and max can be cleared by sending them as null, as long as one value remains.
